With space for up to 72 youth, the Lyle B Medlock Residential Treatment Center accepts male youth only, who are aged 13 to 17 years old. It is a secure location and provides structure, strict rules and schedules, and responsibility and accountability for all the residents. Mandatory engagement is required in group meetings or counseling, individual counseling, life skills counseling, and other programs that will serve their needs. Those with a history of substance abuse will be entered into treatment or therapy to manage their dependence. Other programs are offered on a voluntary basis, but school classes must be attended during the weekdays, physical education is provided, and recreational activities for both group and individuals and they are expected to be engaged in these activities. Additional programming includes drug education, health classes, hygiene classes, independent living programs, and those to help with finding employment and other necessary life skills. Throughout their stay there are expectations placed on the young men to work on self development, and develop skills they will need throughout life, providing them improved opportunities for success and reducing recidivism rates.
