Dallas County Youth Village Information

The Dallas County Youth Village provides a safe and supportive environment for males who are aged 13 to 17 and who have needs that require additional support. Where community programs are not enough to address the needs of these youth they may be assigned to the facility for a period of time or until they finish their program. Participation in counseling, attending school, and other programs are mandatory during any length of stay, and staff will help the students to develop and grow their social skills, encourage positive social interactions, and offer other emotional support for each of the youth. Vocational training is provided in some opportunities for future employment and skill development including culinary arts, ServSafe, welding, forklift operations, and others. The average length of time to complete the program at this location is between four and six months, after which they are released to their parents with connections to additional support outside of the facility. Visitation: Visits are held on the weekends and based upon the dorm assignment, with all visits needing to be scheduled in advance by contacting the facility Monday through Thursday at (972) 225-9700. Visiting hours are as follows: A/B Dorm Saturday 9:00 am 30 Minutes 9:45 am 10:30 am C/D Dorm Saturday 1:00 pm 30 Minutes A home visit will have a curfew of 7pm and the youth must be monitored and supervised at all times. 1:45 pm 2:30 pm

The Dallas County Youth Village allows inmates to receive pre-metered postcards like the type purchased from the post office. They may also allow certain photo postcards as long as they have not been tampered with or contain images that may be considered to be obscene or violent in nature. Newspapers may also be mailed to an inmate as long as they are shipped directly from the publisher.

Magazines
News, special interest or sports magazines may also be mailed to an inmate as long as they are shipped directly from the publisher. Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.

Books
The Dallas County Youth Village allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
Books must NOT contain images or content that are considered excessively violent, pornographic or obscene. Any book that does not meet the Dallas County Youth Village standards will be disposed of. 
Hard cover books will not be accepted by the jail due to their potential to be used as a weapon.
