Dallas County Old Jail no longer operates as a jail. The building still stands, and is on the National Register of Historic Places. It has been converted into office space. This jail, once known as "Old Red," was replaced in by the Lew Sterrett Justice Center.
After being arrested, the offender is brought to the Dallas County Old Jail for booking, which is the detailed process of identifying, classifying, deciding on charges, and whether the person will either be released on their own recognizance, allowed to be released on bail, or moved into the jail until their court date.

The Dallas County Old Jail allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
