About the Riverside Correctional Facility
Opened in June of 2004, the Riverside Correctional Facility (RCF) is part of the Philadelphia Department of Prisons. It is a stand alone facility that is jointly operated under the umbrella of the department, along with three other facilities. This particular building has three stories and this offers services to inmates on each floor of the building including recreation, multipurpose space, and an area for food delivery. There are educational programs that offer an opportunity to learn new skills including vocational training to improve the employment of released inmates, as well as classes on computers. Law libraries as well as leisure libraries are in place to offer access to books and an opportunity to learn more about the law either as general interest or to better prepare for an upcoming trial. Reentry support is offered to help inmates find jobs, housing, and other programs as they are preparing for release to help increase their success. All food and medical needs are cared for in this building, and both phone calls and visits are permitted. To visit family or friends who are incarcerated the visit must be scheduled at least two full days in advance, as well as quality for visits. No one who is on probation or parole, who has just been released, and who is a victim of the inmate are permitted to visit. Visits are scheduled atvisitpdp.org/app and each visitor must have valid ID when they arrive and will be searched for anything illegal and other contraband that is not permitted at the jail. Visits are permitted on weekdays only and during the hours of 9-10am, 1-2 pm, and 3-4 pm. There is space for 10 visits during each of these time periods, and they are booked on a first come first served to the booking platform. Inmates may also receive mail that is addressed to the inmate with their ID number at the facility, and it must meet the restrictions on sizes and content as all mail will be checked for contraband. Between visits inmates are permitted to make outgoing phone calls if there is money on their account to do so. Funds are added to this account at AdvancePay through web.connectnetwork.com/communications/advancepay and adds to the 10 free minutes that are provided each day. Money may also be deposited at the kiosk in the lobby, which also funds the commissary account. To fund the commissary account of an inmate you can also go online to accesscorrections.com. It is necessary to know the location, the full name, and the ID number of the inmate who’s account you are adding too.
