Orange County Juvenile - Youth Leadership Academy Information

This camp facility is semi structured and has two living units that are each two stories high and house 64 youth between them. Within each of the two housing units is a control room, dayrooms for each smaller unit, dining spaces, areas for multipurpose use, and outdoor space for recreational use. A risk and needs assessment is conducted to determine both housing location and the programs and services that will be provided to each individual. Interventions, positive reinforcement, motivators, and others are all used to encourage positive choices and behaviors. Schoolwork is provided by the Department of Education, Orange County Health Care provides medical services, and mental health services, including therapy both in groups and individual, as well as family counseling to engage the parents with the treatments of their youth. Community Services and tutoring are available. To prevent overcrowding the PRIDE program helps to use advancement and transitional services to help young males from 14 to 20 facing long sentences to shorten them, and the LEAD program focuses on males 17-20 to help them reintegrate into their community at the end of their sentences.
