LA COUNTY JAIL - Nidorf Juvenile Information

The Barry J. Nidorf Juvenile Hall in Sylmar has been reassigned and will no longer function as it has been. It will be converted to house only youth who are over 18 but are facing charges that were filed before they turned 18. These youth will have already had their trial, received a judgement, and were sentenced to a term of incarceration at a facility. Most of those who will be held at this location are convicted of serious offenses, or violent offenses, and for this reason they will be housed in this separate facility from the youth who have not been sentenced, who are younger, and who are serving sentences for lesser crimes. This will ensure that all of the juvenile offenders in LA County will receive the security and safety that they require, and that the facilities will be correctly staffed to meet their needs. It will be staffed and operational around the clock, with healthy meals being served three times each day, bedding and clothing provided and laundered regularly, school classes will be provided with the local school board, and programs will be in place to help with any substance use concerns, to offer counselling and mental health support, and group activities to encourage positive social skills and interactions. Visitation: Visiting hours at juvenile halls occur on the weekends, from 1pm to 3pm on Saturdays and 1pm until 4pm on Sundays, and additional visit are permitted on a day that the youth has a court hearing, during the hours of 5pm until 7pm.
