About the Travis County Correctional Complex

The Travis County Correctional Complex is one of two detention facilities for adults in Travis County, Texas. The Correctional Complex is located in Del Valle, Texas, and accepts inmates from all over the county to provide a safe and secure environment for them to await a court date or serve a sentence.

The sprawling complex consists of several buildings, outdoor space for recreation, indoor recreational spaces, plenty of parking for staff and visitors, and occupies a large plot of land outside the city limits.

All who are arrested within Travis County, will be taken to the Travis County Jail for the central booking facility, where they will be assessed for injury or medical need, be provided a phone call and any emergency treatment, go through the booking process with fingerprints and booking photo, and will hear if there will be bail or if they will be held without bail. All personal property is catalogued and stored, a uniform is provided and they will wait for the transport to the Correctional Complex.

After assessment, inmates will be assigned to a housing unit, and they will then be able to request participation in some of the many educational and treatment programs that are available to create their own path to their goals. Programs include addictions treatment and support groups, parenting and household management, basic education for adults, GED and college credit classes, and workplace or vocational training to provide employable skills that can help to reduce recidivism through reliable employment.

A commissary is available for inmates to make purchases of needed items and some extras such as snacks, money can be added to this fund for an inmate by family or friends by sending money through the mail to Inmate Trust Fund:

Phones are provided through Viapath and an account can be made online to accept calls from an inmate. Tablets are provided to all inmates at Travis County Jail and these allow the use of video visits, messaging, and sharing photographs through an app on either android or iOS, and they also allow inmates to access GED and other educational information, and access books, movies, and games. To access these features create an account and you will be able to add funds or communicate with an inmate.

For onsite visits there will be two visits permitted each week for each inmate, with visiting hours being 8am-9pm Wednesday through Sunday and they must be booked at least 24 hours in advance on the ViaPath visitor site. No personal items may be taken in for a visit, and a dress code can be found on the jail website.

Postcards
The Travis County Correctional Complex allows inmates to receive pre-metered postcards like the type purchased from the post office. They may also allow certain photo postcards as long as they have not been tampered with or contain images that may be considered to be obscene or violent in nature.

Envelopes
The Travis County Correctional Complex also allows regular postcards and envelopes to be mailed to inmates as well.

Newspapers
Local or national newspapers may also be mailed to the inmate as long as they are mailed directly from the newspaper publisher.

Magazines
News, special interest or sports magazines may also be mailed to an inmate as long as they are shipped directly from the publisher. Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.

Books
The Travis County Correctional Complex allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address above.
Books must NOT contain images or content that are considered excessively violent, pornographic or obscene. Any book that does not meet the Travis County Correctional Complex standards will be disposed of.

Inmates are NOT allowed to possess more than two books and two magazines at a time. Books or magazines will be returned to the publisher if sent to inmates possessing more than the limit of two of each of these items..
Hard cover books will not be accepted by the jail due to their potential to be used as a weapon.

  • Messages can be up to 500 characters long, including punctuation. At the bottom of your message there is a 'character countdown' feature.  
  • After you click the “CONTINUE” button, you can review the cost to send your message to your inmate. You can also attach credits for your inmate to reply to your message.  Be sure to accept the Terms and Conditions and click the “SEND” button for your message to be successfully delivered to your inmate.

Travis County Correctional Complex allows inmates access to tablets to use for the services provided by 'gettingout'.


The devices are similar to common handheld tablets, but are made exclusively by GettingOut, a GTL / Viapath company.
Tablets offer specialized content and services for inmates to use during their stay at Travis County Correctional Complex, such as:
