The Gardner-Betts Juvenile Justice Center is the location of the Travis County Juvenile Detention. It is a pre-adjudication facility that operates in cooperation with the probation department, court services, probation services, and residential services. It has a rated capacity of 120 youth, and it accepts both male and female juveniles, all of whom are aged 10 to 17 years old. Youth are only detained if they are waiting for their trial and are not able to be returned to the community for reasons such as their safety or the safety of the community, not having a safe and comfortable home to return too, or a history of not appearing to prior court dates. This part of the justice center provides safe housing and secured supervision of the detained juveniles and ensures they receive all of the care they need, physical, mental, and emotional. Through the support of the local school board to provide teachers for ongoing education, a local physician and onsite nurses, and mental health professionals they are able to provide all of the necessary medical and mental health treatments that are needed. The Gardner-Betts Juvenile Justice Center allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
