About the Travis County Central Booking

Within Travis County there are two detention facilities, the Travis County Jail/Central Booking Faicility that is located in Austin, TX, and the Travis County Correctional Complex that is in Del Valle, TX. Each of the locations provides housing for both male and female in each and offer housing pods that keep them separated.

The Central Booking Facility is in the downtown area and rises far above the local buildings with a wall of windows on two sides to allow light into the main building, with slotted windows several stories high for the housing area. A fenced in area on the roof provides an outdoor space for exercise without worry of escape attempts, and keeping inmates safe while they are outside.

Rather than have three different secure facilities, this building provides all three levels of security have minimum security spaces, medium security spaces, and maximum security spaces. Upon booking each inmate is screened and will undergo an assessment to determine housing needs, program needs, medical and mental health treatments, as well as to get their fingerprints, photograph, and personal information. This is a key part of the process where they will be signed up for all the treatments that they need and a program is created to help them reach their goals, reduce recidivism, and improve their employability.

While incarcerated inmates are encouraged to remain active in programs that will benefit them, and these include education programs, health and wellness, veteran programs, re-entry classes and supports, substance abuse programming and treatments, workforce development, classes for families such as parenting and budgeting, and programs for youths who are aged 17-24. Clinical support is provided for those who are processing their own past trauma, overcoming addiction, and adapting new ways of thinking and making decisions.

A commissary  is available for inmates to make purchases of needed items and some extras such as snacks, money can be added to this fund for an inmate by family or friends by sending money through the mail to Inmate Trust Fund:
