Along with the Harris County Leadership Academy and the Harris County Juvenile Detention, the Harris County Youth Village is one of the facilities that is provided by the probation department to detain youth who are a danger to themselves or others, who are waiting for their detention hearing or who are waiting for their court hearing. It is a secure facility with strict structure and routines, security cameras and security doors, and housing units that ensure students are separated by age, gender, and past behavior in a facility. Each is provided with a full assessment upon their intake to determine their grade level in school, their medical needs, and any mental health support that would be beneficial. That information is used to create a program that is personalized for them and will provide skills needed to create a successful life in the community. Services are also provided to the families of the youth, including assisting them in creating healthy communication and relationships to support the juveniles after they are released.
