About the Harris County - The 711 Jail

Jail Annex to 701 - In 2022, the jail complex experienced higher assault rates compared to other large jails in the state. Additionally, the number of prisoner deaths also increased during that time. This rise in deaths and overcrowding could be attributed, in part, to the implementation of Texas Senate Bill 6, which ended many forms of cashless bail. As of October 2022, the jail complex houses over 10,000 inmates, and by November 2022, 24 prisoners had died in custody within the year.

In 2022, approximately 80% of the prisoners were classified as having mental health issues, and more than 12 of the deaths in custody had documented mental health problems by November 2022. By December 18, 2022, a total of 27 prisoners in Harris County custody had died that year.

The jail complex, consisting of four separate jails, includes the 1200 Jail, located at 1200 Baker Street, which houses the Administrative section of the Harris County Sheriff’s Department, along with the 701 Jail Annex, 1307 Jail Annex, and 711 Jail Annex. Inmates with a jail location of XL55 or XL56 are housed at the LaSalle Correctional Center in Olla, Louisiana.

To deposit money into an inmate's bank account at the LaSalle Correctional Center, there are three available options. Remote video visitation is scheduled for the Harris County Jail Facilities located at 700 N. San Jacinto Building. Off-site video visitations can be conducted using a personal computer and webcam, available Monday to Friday from 4 to 9 p.m. and Saturday to Sunday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. The cost for an off-site video visit is $5.99 for a 20-minute session.
