About the Harris County - The 1307 Jail

The 1307 Jail, located at 1307 Baker Street, was originally constructed as a state jail for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Initially, it housed the Harris County Community Supervision and Corrections Department but later reopened under the Sheriff's office in 1998. As of 2010, the Harris County Sheriff's Office has been leasing the facility. This jail features two wings with a total of 1,070 inmate beds. It is classified as a "Semi-Direct Observation" facility, where staff members continuously monitor inmates in the dormitory area 24/7. The jail is staffed by one lieutenant, nine sergeants, and 112 sheriff's deputies and detention officers. Additionally, the facility includes the Farm Shop, a designated area for stray livestock confiscated by the Sheriff.

Video visitation is available for inmates housed at the 700 N. San Jacinto Building. Off-site video visits can be conducted using a personal computer and webcam. For sending inmate mail, ensure that it contains the sender's full name, complete return address, inmate's full name (the name used during booking), inmate's SPN (Special Person Number), inmate's housing facility, and cell block location. Failure to include this information may result in the mail being returned. Letters without a return address or with improper addresses will be forwarded to the U.S. Post Office for handling. All inmate mail is inspected by the Harris County Sheriff's Office upon receipt.
