About the Chesapeake Detention Facility

Chesapeake Detention Facility is the Baltimore city facility for maximum security inmates that have had their trial and been sentenced.

They will serve their sentence at Chesapeake Detention Facility until it’s completion, and for the safety of all staff, inmates, and the community, the maximum security location will have upgraded security, limited movements throughout the building, and they will not have a work release program or other program that allows inmates to be within the outer community.

Near the end of a sentence those who have shown improvements and positive behaviors may be transferred to the pre-release center for the remainder of their sentence and have opportunities to give back to their community and adjust to the demands of reintegration.

This location opened in 1988 and has been updated over the years to maintain the structure as well as to stay up to date with safety measures and security equipment and can be contacted directly to determine the location of a detainee at 410-539-5445.

To help with the mental health of inmates, not only will they receive mental health support, treatments, counseling, and access to support groups, but they will also have access to religious programs and contact with their friends and family outside of the facility.

Having outside contact and hearing from family members has been shown to provide improved safety and result in fewer violent outbursts or other incidents within the housing units.

Each of the housing units provides an opportunity to house inmates with others who have similar charges, a similar criminal history, and security needs, without permitting any inmates who are involved in the same case to be housed within the same unit.

Transportation is provided to and from court dates, and family may delivery court suitable clothing to the office for an innate who has a court date.

All mail is checked for contraband, adult content, inappropriate images and photographs, and any risks to the safety of the facility before it is delivered, and at Chesapeake Detention Facility it must be addressed to the inmate at:

Inmate's Full Name & Inmate’s State Identification (SID) number
CDF
410 EAST MADISON STREET
BALTIMORE, MARYLAND 21202

All inmates will be able to access phones each day to call their family or friends, though it will require an account be made, and they will be unable to either accept incoming calls or to make calls to other detention centers.

Visitation is limited to Thursday through Monday, beginning at 11am and going until 1:30pm and the second session beginning at 3:30pm and going until 7pm, with weekends starting at 9am in addition to the regular weekday hours. Updated information is maintained on the website.
