The Charles H Hickey Jr School is operated by the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services and is located within the county of Baltimore, Maryland. It houses up to 72 male juveniles while they are awaiting court dates or serving a sentence. From this location several counties are served including Baltimore, Carroll, Cecil, Harford, and Howard. To provide the best care, all staff are fully trained in trauma informed care, and undergo ongoing training every year. All students will continue their education through onsite academic classes that follow local schools and include individualized education that is designed to meet the needs of each student. Additional learning opportunities include Career and Technolgy Education certificates, GED prep and testing, school counseling support, and post-secondary classes and courses. Activities cover a wide range and offer something for each student including a book club or writing competition, life skills, chess, fine arts, sports and fitness, leadership, real estate investing, and pet therapy. Health services that are provided to assist with behavioral issues include medication management, substance abuse education and treatment, services to help survivors of human trafficking, psychoeducation and crisis counseling.
