The Grand Prairie Police Department Detention Center, housed within the Investigative Services Bureau, serves as a holding facility for individuals who have been arrested. The center has a capacity to house 210 inmates and is comprised of five cell blocks, four temporary holding blocks, and two special management cells. Additionally, there are six separate cells dedicated to the short-term housing of juvenile offenders. The detention center is staffed by one Detention Manager, four Detention Supervisors, eight Detention Team Leads, and a team of Detention Officers.
Visitation at the Grand Prairie Detention Center is available on Sundays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors must present valid identification to gain visitation privileges. As a holding facility, prisoners are typically confined for less than 72 hours before being released or transferred to another facility.
During the booking process, prisoners are allowed to place a free telephone call. Once the booking process is complete, they may make unlimited collect telephone calls from inside the cell block. Family members can purchase prepaid phone cards at a kiosk in the detention center lobby and deliver them to the Bond Desk.
