The new Juvenile Justice Complex was opened in 2016, and it has 60 beds, with 40 being designated for male juveniles and 20 for female juveniles. It covers 25,000 square feet and the single room cells are organized in four units with eight cells in each unit. When there is space and open beds other regions may access those beds on a need basis and the income from that provides additional funds for the facility. During their detention juveniles will undergo an assessment that will help address strengths and weaknesses, necessary medical care, determine any additional educational support that may be needed to improve academic support, offer an overview of the needs of the student and may result in the request for a psychological test as well. Core academics are provided as well as GED programs, personal health and hygiene, mental health programs, anger management and conflict resolution, personal finance, religious services, gender sensitivity training, drug education, and social skills are all taught in the facility. Recreational activities occur regularly to assist in improving self-image, skill development, and providing a boost to both mental and physical health. Mail: All mail must be sent to the mailing address for the facility, where it will be processed and sent to the location for final delivery. Phones: Juveniles are permitted to call parents or guardians during their free hours with the phones located in each unit. Visitation: Visits with family are 30 minutes long and organized by unit, with only parents, guardians, grandparents, and siblings who are over 21 years old being able to attend.
