Aaron Cohn Regional Youth Detention Center Information

Previously known as the Colombus RYDC, the Aaron Cohn Regional Youth Detention Center serves many areas of the state including Muscogee County as well as Chattahoochee, Harris, Marion, Meriwether, Pike, Webster, Quitman, Randolph, Schley, Stewart, Talbot, Taylor, and Troup counties.

The youth at this facility will be in the grades 7 through 10, and licensed teachers are employed to teach these grades each weekday in the onsite classrooms. This ensures that all are up to date with their classes when they are released, and most maintain their grades while some find they get better grades.

Upon arrival there are assessments completed to determine which housing unit is the best fit, any additional services they may benefit from, what classes they are in, and any medical care required. Each day three healthy meals are served, and a strictly timed routine guides students through their day. Staying on schedule will teach discipline and responsibility, as well as keep the facility running in a way that is safe for both staff and students.

Several courses are present beyond school hours and can help the students with parenting skills, money management, anger management, or other life skills, and treatment is in place for any substance abuse issues.
