About the Muscogee County Jail

The Muscogee County Jail in Georgia has a capacity of 1,069 inmates. The facility is considered a regional medium security jail and is located at 700 10th Street in Columbus, Georgia. You can call the jail 24 hours a day at 706-653-4258.

The Muscogee County Jail is made up of what they call the 'old jail', contructed in 1939, and the 'new jail'. This is due to a $17 million expansion that took place from 1999 to 2002, in which twelve new cellblocks were added, in addition to 'special management cells' and isolation cells for inmates that need closer obsrvation due to self harm or other violent behavior.

The construction that was completed in 2002 also expanded the Adminstration area and a added a new Intake section and an area for inmate visitation. The facicility also used the money to improve security measures, a larger medical facility, interior enclosed exercise yards, the fingerprint and classification center. Even with the expansion the jail is still facing serious overcrowding issues. To build a new jail that meets all their needs the cost would be close to $250 million, a figure it is unlikely they can afford.

This picture shows how they attached the new jail to the old red brick facility.

The Muscogee County Jail actively tries to rehabilitate inmates by providing specific dorms that focus on ways to improve their behavior and to focus on problems that they have. For example, they maintain a Fatherhood Dorm, a successful program that has reduced recidivism by 50%, and a Veterans Dorm that works with veterans and their issues. They provide a wide array of religious programming in conjunction with the local community for Christians, Muslims, and even for Spanish speaking inmates.

In addition they have Drug Recovery programs, GED training, AA, NA, Literacy programs, Domestic Violence counseling, etc.

The Muscogee County Jail online inmate information includes mugshots, criminal charges, bond, court schedules and more.

Inmate Money Accounts

How Do You Deposit Money for an Inmate in the Muscogee County Jail?

There are FOUR options for putting money on an inmate's books:

Option 1 - Dropping Money at the Jail
Bring money to the jail in person.
Either the jail personnel will process the Inmate Account payment or you will use a Jail ATM self-serve kiosk in the lobbies that accepts cash, debit or credit cards.

Option 2 - Deposit Inmate Money Online
Muscogee County Jail uses Jail ATM to process all online deposits to an inmate's account. The company charges you a small fee for doing so, but the fee probably isn't as much as gas and parking would cost to take it to the jail in person.

Option 3 - Mail the Inmate Deposit to the Jail
Mailing a deposit takes more time to process than the other methods but can be done if you live too far away to bring it in person and you don't have a debit/credit card for online deposits. Never send cash. Always send a Money Order from the US Post Office, a reputable bank or Western Union. Call the Muscogee County Jail first as they may want you to do this online or at the jail kiosk instead.
Make the Money Order out to the inmate's name and put their Inmate ID# in memo section of the Money Order.
