There have been numerous reports of inhumane conditions at Fulton County Jail, including water outages, understaffing, malnourishment, lice and scabies. In April 2022, a $1.2 million settlement was reached to ensure inmates spend at least four hours a day outside of their cells. Additionally, the jail must now promptly transfer individuals that are mentally ill and indicted inmates accused of felonies within 90 days as required by Georgia law.
The Fulton County Jail in Georgia has made continuous improvements in inmate management, building security, and delivery of medical and food services. It offers an Inmate Search database to the public, and recently partnered with a technology company to increase security and track inmates. Representatives from the Georgia House toured the jail to see conditions and learn about problems facing staff and inmates.
