As the regional short term housing facility for the counties of Cherokee, Cobb, Douglas, and Paulding, the center has an average of 15 students in grades 7 through 11 at one time. All residents must attend school classes Monday through Friday during regular school hours, and licensed teachers are brought in from the local school district to ensure the curriculum follows the local schools and that each student receives the attention they need. After school has finished there is time for homework, to work with computers to improve computer skills, free time for writing letters or reading mail, access to the library for books to read or to complete homework with, and other activities. Each resident is also provided with all medical care that is needed, both temporary and ongoing, as well as mental health care and treatments for addictions, trauma, or other concerns. Parenting classes may be accessed, as well as other courses to improve both life and social skills to ensure youth leave with as many skills as possible to become healthy and active members of their community.
