The complex that houses the Cobb County Work Release covers several acres of land and consists of 3 long, sprawling white buildings and the tower that combine to reach a top capacity of over 3,000 inmates.
Those in the work program will be assigned to work crews and they will be able to leave the campus as well as to do work on the grounds, or they may be attending college courses full time and be able to attend during the day. These are only for those who are sentenced to a short period for non-violent crimes and who are not at high risk of flight or re-offense.
Each inmate in the program must qualify for it in a several step process that includes a thorough background check, they must have a job or be in classes including training classes, and meet all other requirements. They are housed in a smaller area on the grounds, in minimum security, and may have their clothing and shoes that are required for work as well as their inmate clothing.
