Responsible for the care and control of all of the youth who are placed in this secure detention facility, this location houses all of the youth who are being tried as adults, those who are waiting for their court date, youth waiting for their sentence to be announced, and any who are assigned detention as a part of their sentence. It opened in 2004 and has 88 beds, allowing for it to serve the needs of the local population and house each of the young offenders from the area. Each housing unit will have two staff members present at all ties, and there is counseling available at all times, as well as supervision to maintain safety and security, and all health care needs are met. The goal of the facility is to rehabilitate youth and ensure they keep up with their education, receive treatment for substance abuse, anger management, and any mental health support they need. All meals are provided and created in a healthy manner. Mail: Mail can be sent and received each weekday through the US Postal Service. Hand delivered mail or packages will not be accepted. All mail is checked for contraband before delivery. Phones: Residents are permitted access to phones to contact their lawyer or other professionals as needed and will be permitted to call their parents or guardians at least once each week. Only approved phone numbers may be contacted. Visitation: Virtual visits occur on Wednesdays from 4:30pm to 6:30pm or 6:30 to 8:30pm.

Any magazines that contain profanity, weapons, pornography or other content that is adult in nature will be confiscated by the jail staff and will NOT be delivered to the inmate.

Books
The Washington DC Youth Services Center allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
Books must NOT contain images or content that are considered excessively violent, pornographic or obscene. Any book that does not meet the Washington DC Youth Services Center standards will be disposed of.
