Denver County Gilliam Youth Services Center Information

Both male and female young offenders are housed in this facility, with space for up to 35 youth. 14 hours of programs and classes are attended each day from Monday to Friday, with 12 hours on the weekend and any holidays. Recreation is provided each day for one hour and there are church services available once a week. All young offenders who are located in the facility are between the ages of 10 and 18, after which they become adults in the justice system. A level system is used to reward positive behaviors while negative behaviors or breaking the rules may find youth moving down the levels and losing privileges. All healthcare, dentalcare, and mental health care are provided during their stay, and youth will also be provided with guidance on social interactions and life skills. All regular school classes are provided by the Denver Public School, and they will attend each weekday for reading, writing, math, social studies, computers, and even physical education. Additional. Classes help students address social and emotional concerns or earn college credits. Mail: Youth are provided with postage for two letters each week, and any additional postage must be provided by family members. All letters will be read in the presence of the youth they are intended for and will be refused if there is contraband, unacceptable language, or break rules, or it may be censored before being given to the receiver. 2844 Downing St. Denver, CO 80205 Phones: Youth in this location will be able to both make and receive phone calls during approved hours at least twice each month. Visitation: Immediate family members are encouraged to visit during the visiting hours provided as often as possible to help youth to get the most from their rehabilitation. Visiting hours occur on weekdays from 5pm until 8pm with additional hours on weekends. All visits must be scheduled in advance.

The Denver County Gilliam Youth Services Center allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
