Ventura County has a large Juvenile Hall Facility that can house up to 420 young offenders, both male and female in separate areas of the facility. 240 are used for detention and the remaining 180 are focused on commitment services for youth. It is a full services facility that offers both indoor and outdoor recreation areas, a gym, technology center, visiting center, full medical area, classrooms where regular classwork from the local schools is completed, a full kitchen to provide healthy meals three times each day, and full laundry services. A courthouse is located directly next to the juvenile facility to allow easy transportation for youth to their court dates, ensuring a timely arrival and attendance at all court dates. Programs are offered that encourage both individual work and group work to develop skills needed for both, as well as classes to improve employability after their release. Parenting classes, anger management, chess, music, dance, and other programs are offered to improve life and social skills.
