Susan J. Gionfriddo Juvenile Justice Center Information

Also known as the Juvenile Justice Center, it is located in Santa Maria and works alongside the Los Prietos Boys Camp to offer rehabilitation and detention services for all youth offenders within the county. Upon arrival there is an intake procedure which includes a booking process with a photograph and fingerprints, as well as recording the charges, address, medical information, and contact information for the parent or guardian. Each youth is also assessed for health and mental health needs, to determine which services are required, if there is any alcohol or drug use, and to determine housing. Housing is assigned based upon gender, age, seriousness of charges, and any past behavioral concerns during detention. Mail: Mail may be both sent and received through the US Postal Service and will not be accepted in any other delivery method. Phones: Two initial phone calls are permitted right after their intake, to allow the resident to contact their family and their employer to make arrangements for their absence. Going forward each will receive at least one call each week, while positive behavior can gain two extra calls each week. Visitation: There is one initial visit of 30 minutes after admission, and two hours of visitation each week afterwards. Visiting hours are determined by housing assignments, but occur on Sundays and Tuesdays, no earlier than 9:30am and no later than 8pm.
