Each inmate is assigned to the least restrictive unit to fit their needs, and they are provided with all of their basic needs including medical care, dental care, programs, education, and much more.
The Shawano County Jail is within the same building as the Sheriff's Department, as well as operating the work release portion of the jail, and it stretches out almost a block long to accommodate both purposes.
For questions or concerns about a specific inmate or programs the jail can be contacted by phone at 715-526-7950 and an online lookup is maintained to provide around the clock access to inmate status.
During work release inmates are able to maintain their prior jobs and attend work each day then return to the jail at the end of their shift for their sentence. Inmates are unable to have personal items delivered, other than medical items including glasses and prescriptions, but they are able to purchase items from the commissary if friends or family add money to the account which is accessed in the jail lobby at the kiosk or online.
Phones are provided in each of the housing units, and this allows inmates to make outgoing calls with the phones being activated in the morning after cleaning is completed and turned off at 10:30pm.

Visits are provided with an online account and each inmate is permitted one visit of 15 minutes each day during the following times: Monday – Friday 6pm-8:50pm, Saturday 1pm-4:20pm and 6pm-8:50pm, as well as Sunday 1pm-4:20pm.
