About the Sauk County Jail

Consisting of 145,000 square feet and 463 beds, the Sauk County Jail is the main detention facility for Sauk County. The staff may be contacted at 608-355-3210 for any concerns regarding an inmate, bail, or visits.

Precast concrete cells were used to create each of the six housing pods consisting of 24 cells each. Minimum security inmates are housing in one of the two 48 bed dorms which allows for additional movement around the space, and there is a 96 bed Huber Center, aka work release center. Maximum security cells, handicapped accessible units and isolation spaces are limited to single occupancy while all of the others are double occupancy. Of the pods, two are currently empty and are prepared for future growth of the community and increased incarceration needs.

A contract is in place for full medical care of all inmates regardless of their length of incarceration, and the security cameras and updated systems ensure that all inmates within the building are monitored, while GPS trackers follow those serving offsite. Along with medical care inmates receive mental health support, healthy meals, clean clothing, recreational time and activities, learning opportunities, and access to tablets for education, entertainment, and communication.

To provide video visits, tablets are used that also provide access to messages, photo sharing, and more, which can be funded online.

Video visits are provided at the Sauk County Jail at the kiosks for 15 minutes at a time Tuesday through Friday 9am-10:30am and Tuesday through Thursday 7pm-8:30pm, while they are accessible from home every day 9am-11am, 12:30pm-2:15pm, 3pm-4:15pm, and 9pm-9pm.

Inmate Money Accounts

How Do You Deposit Money for an Inmate in the Sauk County Jail?

There are FOUR options for putting money on an inmate's books:

Option 1 - Dropping Money at the Jail
Bring money to the jail in person.
Either the jail personnel will process the Inmate Account payment or you will use a Jail ATM self-serve kiosk in the lobbies that accepts cash, debit or credit cards.

Option 2 - Deposit Inmate Money Online
Sauk County Jail uses Jail ATM to process all online deposits to an inmate's account. The company charges you a small fee for doing so, but the fee probably isn't as much as gas and parking would cost to take it to the jail in person.

Option 3 - Mail the Inmate Deposit to the Jail
Mailing a deposit takes more time to process than the other methods but can be done if you live too far away to bring it in person and you don't have a debit/credit card for online deposits. Never send cash. Always send a Money Order from the US Post Office, a reputable bank or Western Union. Call the Sauk County Jail first as they may want you to do this online or at the jail kiosk instead.
Make the Money Order out to the inmate's name and put their Inmate ID# in memo section of the Money Order.

To do this you will need the inmate's offender # (inmate ID #) and full legal name.
