Spokane County Juvenile Detention Information

With 39 beds to house the juvenile offenders or youth at risk, the Spokane County Juvenile Detention also has 7 intake cells and is able to house youth around the clock safely in the secure building. There are 37 full time staff, volunteers, and part time staff to provide all of the services and programs that are required for the youth throughout their stay. Rather than focusing on any punishment the detention or confinement is only used, when necessary, for those who are a danger to themselves or the community and to provide a safe and comfortable environment where youth can begin positive changes in their lives. Where it is determined that confinement is needed, such as probation violations, they will begin with the least restrictive environment and work up with increased limits on movement and freedom of decision until they are no longer needed, or they are in a full detention setting. Several programs run in the facility to offer a wide range of opportunities for personal growth including arts, poetry, a library, counseling, physical training, GEDs, STD education, substance abuse treatment and screening, gardening, volunteer opportunities, and religious programs. Mail: 902 N. Adams St. Spokane, WA 99260 While youth can send and receive mail it must be free of contraband, have no discussion of illegal activities or violence, and avoid any adult content. Phone: Youth are able to access phones during recreation hours only and may call parents or guardians, while they are unable to accept incoming calls. Visitation: Visits are allowed at least once each week, with those details being provided by the staff to the parents or the legal guardians, as well as any other visitors who are approved through the court.
