Operating under the Mason County Juvenile Court, the Mason County Juvenile Detention Facility is the main facility where juvenile offenders are held during their wait for a court date or if they are assigned to detention. Its main purpose is to maintain the safety of the community by providing a secure and safe environment for the detention of young offenders where they are held accountable for their choices and behavior. In addition, all basic needs are met, and they are each provided with an education, programs to reduce recidivism, and opportunities to grow life skills and improve social skills. Treatments are offered for any medical or mental health needs, as well as substance use, anger management, conflict resolution, and other concerns. Some programming is provided through partnerships with groups and organizations within the community, and through active supervision they are interacting with detention staff during the day. Services include medical and health care, orientation, education, recreation activities, access to the onsite library, visitation, counseling, supervision and safety, and food services which provide healthy meals and snacks. Mail: Any mail is checked for contraband and to ensure there is no adult content, topics or discussions of violence, or illegal activities, and may not be exchanged with any other individual who is incarcerated or detained or has been at this facility in the past. Phone: Phones are provided, and they may be used to place outgoing calls to parents and guardians only during free time or recreational hours. Visitation: Visits are provided only to parents and guardians or those with special permission from the court due to limited space and time for visits. Each of the youth are able to access three visits each week and they will be 20 minute long visits. Visits are scheduled by calling 427-9670 ext. 739 and visits are scheduled each day except for Tuesday.

Books
The Mason County Juvenile Detention Facility allows books to be mailed directly to the jail from a reputable source such as AmazonBarnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. You can order them directly from your computer and have them shipped to the inmate at the address noted.
