King County Juvenile Detention Center Information

King County is served by the Judge Patricia H Clark Children and Family Justice Center as a full service detention facility. Detention is one of the last options when other attempts at alternatives have not worked, when a youth is charged with a violent or serious crimes, and for high risk offenders. Schooling is provided by the local schoolboard and allows for youth to transfer between their regular school and the detention facility easily. Within the facility the focus remains on rehabilitation and safety, reducing recidivism by providing youth with the tools they need to build the life they want and to reduce recidivism, rather than focusing on punishment as a deterrent. Mental health is supported by professionals and help youth to maintain their mental health while in detention and provide a basis to build upon after they are released. Medical care is also provided, along with programs to address concerns for the youth, grow social skills, learn new life skills, and discover other ways to fit into their community as a productive adult. Plans are currently being designed to close the juvenile detention facility and use alternatives to provide services to the youth. Address: 1211 East Alder Street, Seattle, WA, 98122 Phone: Calls to parents and guardians are free, but all other calls will be made collect and billed to the receiver, with incoming calls not being received.
