Henrico Juvenile Detention Home Information

The Henrico Juvenile Detention Home works with the juvenile courts and families to provide a safe and secure facility for any juveniles who are determined to require detention or alternatives to detention. Youth may be at the location if they are a danger to themselves or others in the community, if they are assigned to the facility after their court date as a part of their sentencing, if alternatives to detention are not successful, or are waiting for a court date and have a history of not attending court when not detained. As it is also operating the alternatives to detention there are several programs running in the facility. Electronic monitoring provides an ankle monitor to the juvenile and allows them to remain at home, attend school, and work if they have a job, while their location is tracked, and a curfew is in place. Detention Outreach has an officer meet the youth each day to ensure they are following the strict rules that are in place and determine where they are and what they are doing. When residing in the detention facility there is a strict schedule to be followed, classes are attended each day with teachers from the local schoolboard onsite, and physical education classes also continue.
