About the Piedmont Regional Jail

Housing inmates from minimum security needs to those in high security, the Piedmont Regional Jail is located in Farmville, Virginia and serves the surrounding counties.

Inmates at this jail are offenders who have been arrested in Amelia County that were recently charged with a felony or misdemeanor, are awaiting trial, or have been found guilty for their crime(s) and have been sentenced to one year or less.

Contracted counties include Amelia County, Buckingham County, Cumberland County, Lunenburg County, Nottoway County, Prince Edward County, Culpeper County, Powhatan County.

Working together is a strong theme that runs through the facility with both staff and inmates being encouraged to work on their own personal development and learn new skills that will assist them in their job and throughout their lives.

Inmates are supported in both their health needs and in growing their educational experiences with programs that have been developed and created based on past experience and studies on how to bet assist inmates in their re-entry to society after their sentence. Several programs are available both during incarceration and when transitioning out, as well as afterwards to help with jobs, homes, and more.

Work Release is also available at this facility if the sentence is non-violent and under a year and a half, and they are sentenced to it through their regular sentencing.

Inmate services include an online money deposit, video visitation, digital email messaging and outgoing phone calls.

Another way in which inmates are supported is through the encouragement of sustaining outside relationships. With access to mail, both incoming and outgoing, phones to make outgoing calls to anyone on their approved call list, and regular access to visitors, inmates can remain in contact with their friends and their family throughout their incarceration.

They will also have access to a commissary account to purchase items that they need, and this can be funded through their friends and family online or through the kiosk in the lobby of the jail.

Phones are available to inmates throughout the day, and they can have up to 10 people or phone numbers on their call list using funds on their account, or through making collect phone calls that will be added to the bill of the receiver.

The same account can also be used to make online visits, and they can be scheduled and paid for at that site. For an onsite an in person visit, the hours will be from 8am until 5:30pm with specific days and times for each housing unit. Visits will occur only on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, and can be up to 30 minutes long with 6 visitors, however it is necessary to arrive 15 minutes early to clear through security before your visitation time.

What is the booking process for the Piedmont Regional Jail?

Do Inmates in the Piedmont Regional Jail have Access to Tablets or Computers?

Piedmont Regional Jail allows inmates access to tablets to use for the services provided by 'gettingout'.


The devices are similar to common handheld tablets, but are made exclusively by GettingOut, a GTL / Viapath company.
Tablets offer specialized content and services for inmates to use during their stay at Piedmont Regional Jail, such as:

  • Music
  • Books
  • Games
  • Education
  • News
  • Radio
  • Television
  • Read mail and messages
  • Video visits

-  Free services are already available for use on the device at Piedmont Regional Jail.
-  Subscription services are funded separately by family and friends with deposits made into an inmate’s Debit Link account.
-  Piedmont Regional Jail Inmates will then be able to purchase subscription services and premium content to enjoy.

Unlimited eBooks:

Thirty-Day Subscription: $1.99, with an additional $1.00 service infrastructure charge ($2.99)

Fourteen-Day Subscription: $0.99, with an additional $0.75 service infrastructure charge ($1.74)

Seven-Day Subscription: $0.49, with an additional $0.50 service infrastructure charge ($0.99)

Streaming Music:

Thirty-Day Subscription: $8.99, with an additional $16.00 service infrastructure charge ($24.99)

Fourteen-Day Subscription: $5.99, with an additional $9.00 service infrastructure charge ($14.99)

Seven-Day Subscription: $2.99, with an additional $5.00 service infrastructure charge ($7.99)

How Inmates Can Use a Tablet to Access Services at Piedmont Regional Jail

To find out how to get access to a tablet for inmate read the following:

1.  First, Register or Sign In to GettingOut/GTL

2.  Purchase the services you want for your Piedmont Regional Jail inmate.
3. All inmates have free access to the tablets to read their letters from family & friends, but there are many other services available to keep your inmate busy while incarcerated... such as Games, Books, Music and Movies. These other services come with fees that you can pay for when you pay for phone service.
