Young offenders, those who are 10 to 17 years of age, and referred to the probation department for delinquent acts, will find they are provided with a level of supervision that is based upon their behavior and offences. If they are not qualified fo4 deferred probation or formal probation, they may find themselves detained at the Tom Green County Juvenile Detention Center. While within the center a strict schedule is maintained that includes three healthy meals each day, school classes that run during school hours on weekdays, recreation time, and cleaning their own space or doing some chores. There are 25 beds in the facility, and each will be provided with sheets and blankets for the individual room which also has a toilet and sink, and they will be given time to be in the common areas. A detention hearing is held no later than the second business day that they are in the facility, and this may extend their detention up to 10 days, which will be reassessed every 10 days. They can be made only to those who are on the visitation list and calls will occur on Sunday, Monday, and Thursday between 7:30am and 8am. Visitation: Visits occur during the provided hours of 3pm to 5pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday and each visit will be 15 minutes. Only those who are on the approved visiting list and arrive to check in before 4:45pm will be permitted to visit.

  • Visitation days are on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 3:00 – 5:00 PM, excluding Tom Green County Holidays.

  • In order to visit your child, you must be on the approved visitation list provided by the child’s Juvenile Probation Officer and present a valid picture ID prior to each and every visitation.
