The Karnes County Jail, completed in 2018 at a cost of $11.38 million, and over one year late due to the contractor's mismanagement, contains a total of 27,000 square feet and has a rated capacity of 48 beds, with the ability to add an additional 48 beds at a later date, bringing the total to 96 beds.

The concrete jail shares the building with the county sheriff and the new courthouse. Having the court in the same building as the jail, creates a more secure environment when transferring inmates.

The jail is located at the intersection of E. Wall and South Bond Streets, about 100 yard east of the city park and the Post office.

Inmates at this jail are offenders who have been arrested in Karnes County that were recently charged with a felony or misdemeanor, are awaiting trial, or have been found guilty for their crime(s) and have been sentenced to one year or less.
