Hidalgo County Juvenile Detention Information

Hidalgo County Juvenile Detention was opened in December of 2007 to house youth throughout the county who are referred by law enforcement or the court. It accepts youth, both male and female who are 10-17 years old, and houses them in appropriate housing pods based upon gender, age, and the seriousness of their charges to ensure the safest and most comfortable environment possible. The building provides 96 beds at full capacity, and functions as a pre-adjudication facility, processes specialized district court cases, and houses those from other locations who have reached capacity. The stated mission is to provide rehabilitation, education, care, and security of the young offenders, protect the community, address victims' issues sensitively, and within the community to address what aspects or elements that are contributing to delinquency to create programs in the community to reduce it. During any stay at the facility all medical, dental, and mental health needs will be provided for and both life and social skills will be developed and encouraged. It operates in conjunction with the Hidalgo County Boot Camp which offers an alternative environment to house juvenile offenders. Mail: 1001 N.
