About the Hidalgo County Detention Facility

With a top capacity of over 1,200 beds, the Hidalgo County Detention Facility is the main housing location for all arrestees within Hidalgo County and this makes them responsible for the care and control of the inmates during any length of detention.  

There are full services provided for all inmates, and they will be classified upon arrival to house those with similar criminal history, charges, and past behavior in the same housing units for the improved safety of all inmates and staff.  

Laundry is washed regularly, and jail uniforms and bedding are provided upon intake, after which they will be shown their bed and housing unit, and they may sign up for programs that will provide additional life and social skills or that will provide them with additional employable skills.

Some will be able to work in Hidalgo County Detention Facility while they are incarcerated to provide an opportunity to have activities to do each day as well as to gain skills that will be useful in finding outside employment.

Other programs include religious programs for those who choose to attend, basic adult education, support groups, counseling both group and individual, opportunities to exercise and recreational activities are also provided.

Hidalgo County Detention Facility uses the services of NCIC for remote video visitation.

In other words, you can visit your inmate in jail by using your home computer, as long as it is equipped with a microphone and camera that supports video.

When available, the jail also provides use of ‘video visit kiosks’ in the jail lobby if you do not have a computer at home. These ’on-site’ video visits are FREE.
