The Hamblen County Juvenile Detention Center is a temporary holding location that is within the Hamblen County Justice Center. It is housed in the same building as the Juvenile Court, ensuring that each of the court dates will be attended and limiting the transportation needs for court dates. They will be escorted from their housing unit to the courtroom and back by officers and families are able to attend court appearances with their youth. Many programs operate out of the building as well, providing volunteer opportunities for the community as well as offering juveniles the chance to volunteer, with a focus on rehabilitation for the youth. Mental health needs are addressed within the building and medical care is provided as needed to ensure the health of all detainees. As a temporary facility there are no long term residents, sentences are not served here, and they are often released after their fist court date. Alternatives to detention are used to reduce the number of youths who are found in detention centers including home monitoring, community service, and more.
