About the Hamblen County Jail

The new Hamblen County Jail is expected to be completed in October of 2024, and until that time the Hamblen County Jail will remain in use. The new facility will have 600 beds, while the current only has 255 beds to access for both male and female inmates for the duration of their incarceration. It is expected that after the completion it will take 3 months to complete the transfer to the new location, ensuring the Hamblen County Jail will be in use for several more months or even years.

The current make up of inmates is 185 beds for males and 70 beds for females.

Inmates are offenders arrested in Hamblen County that have recently been arrested for a felony or misdemeanor, are awaiting trial, or have been found guilty for their crime(s) and have been sentenced to one year or less.

At the current location, operations will continue as normal, and they can be contacted at 423-585-2720, while inmates may be looked up to determine their location and bail information online.

Detention officers are onsite and on duty around the clock, ensuring not only the security of the building but also of the safety of the residents, the staff, and the community.

There are services that are legally mandated and provided at all locations, including healthy meals three times a day, clean laundry, access to recreational space and activities, medical care that is provided onsite and there is transportation for any serious illness or injury to hospitals for care, mental health care and counseling are provided, and there are opportunities for educational advancement as well.

The inmate phone service does not allow for incoming calls; however, inmates have access to phones to make outgoing calls every day.

Visits are permitted, and many of the local jails have moved to online visits, which permits friends and family who are unable to access the location directly to still have visits.
