⇓ Learn more ⇓ Show lessLocated in downtown Nashville, the Downtown Detention Center is one of several facilities in Davidson County that provide housing for inmates who are arrested and awaiting trial or who are serving a sentence.
This particular location offers three different levels of security throughout with minimum, medium, and maximum security areas. It maintains a top capacity of 762 inmates and accepts both male and female inmates, providing the booking and intake services for the city.
Downtown Detention Center is the first location to which new inmates will be taken and processed, after which they will be assessed for security needs and classification, and they will be transferred to the appropriate facility after their detention hearing and classification have been completed.
It was completed and opened in 2020 and has been operational since, with its recent build being the most technologically advanced of all the facilities in the county and providing increased safety and security.
It consists of several housing units which allow male and female inmates to remain separated and to house those with similar classifications together, creating the safest environment possible.
While it may not be their long term detention area, inmates are able to access mail with friends and family as long as it has a full return address and is addressed to:

Following an arrest, individuals are processed at Downtown Detention Center. The booking process confirms identity, charges, and whether the individual will be released, granted bail, or held until court.

Costs vary and are subject to change, but generally visits range from $5.00 to $15.00 for a 15 to 30 minute online or on-site video visit.
How do you know if your Inmate will be available during the time you schedule?
