About the McCormick County Detention Center
McCormick County jail falls under the jurisdiction of the McCormick County Sheriff’s Office. This allows the detention center to be open 24/7 and for the sheriff office to able to assist in emergency responses both throughout the community but also within the jail itself. The facility is a full service facility that offers food services and nutritional meals, laundry for the jail clothing, keeps personal belonging safe for their return upon the inmates release, and offers opportunities to receive mental health support, addictions treatments, and necessary medical care. This is the only facility that is able to hold inmates for longer than 72 hours, and it functions as the main facility for the surrounding area. It houses over 360 inmates over an average year and offers the most advanced security systems. Security cameras ensure staff can see each area and there is constant communication between staff and any volunteers or civilian staff. Pretrial inmates will remain here before and during their trial if they are unable to make bail, and those who are serving sentences of up to one year will remain in this facility. For phone calls, inmates are permitted outgoing phone calls are through the NCIC network, and this account can be completed at ncic.com. Visiting an inmate can be done either on site or remotely, and they are allowed one visit each week for up to three visitors in each appointment, for one hour at a time. There are visiting hours available on Saturdays from 9:30am until 2pm and on Sundays from 11:30am until 2pm. Remote visits have a wider accessibility and vary depending upon the housing assignment and schedule of each inmate, and these hours will be provided by the inmate during a phone call to plan a visit.
