About the Darlington County Detention Center

Also called the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center, the Darlington County Detention Center operates in Darlington County and provides the main detention facility for the county and the local Sheriff.

It has a capacity of 224 inmates and has another 64 spaces in the holding area for those who are newly arrested and being booked, are awaiting release, or are in the process of being transferred.

To determine if someone you know is in the facility there is an online lookup, or the facility can be contacted at 843-398-4220. With the vast majority of inmates being temporary as they await their trial, there are a few who have been sentenced to 90 days or less that will remain at this location until they are released, while those with longer sentences will be transferred to an alternative facility for their sentence.

As a direct supervision facility with both male and female inmates, there are officers who are present in each of the housing units and this allows for officers to interact directly with inmates on a daily basis, creating relationships and sharing positive social interactions which can assist in improving communication and social skills.

There are several programs that operate to care for the basic needs of the inmates including physical, mental, emotional, and educational. Food service provides healthy meals, laundry ensures there are clean clothing and bedding, GED prep and testing allows inmates to leave with their GED and better opportunities for employment, and addiction and other treatments provide a solid base to build their future.
