⇓ Learn more ⇓ Show lessLocated on the same property as the Abbeville County Jail, Sheriff’s Office, and Magistrate Court, the 30-bed Abbeville County Prison houses offenders arrested throughout Abbeville County, both male and female, misdemeanor and felony, as they are serving a sentence to the facility.
It is a bland building that is brown on the outer and surrounded by high fencing, creating a safe and secure outer recreational space for inmates to access along with the recreation areas that are found inside. It is directly in front of the other buildings in the complex and has parking only on the side of the building. The entrance requires picture identification and only those who are approved entry will be admitted. Along with recreational space, inmates are provided with medical care as needed, both for ongoing medical needs and illness or injury that occur during incarceration.
Opportunities are provided that encourage developing positive social skills as well as to develop life skills that will be used to ease their reentry to their community. Healthy meals are made three times each day and follow the nutritional guidelines for adults.

In order to ensure inmates are able to communicate with legal representation, their family members, and their friends, there is a mail delivery and pick up by the US Postal Service, access to phones for outgoing calls during daytime hours, mail is sent directly to the jail, and it will be checked upon arrival by staff for a return address and name of the sender, the remainder of the envelope must be blank, there must not be any adult content or pictures, and no conversations of illegal activities.

Inmates will require money for some purchases of commissary, for phone calls, and other needs during their incarceration and this can be provided through their commissary account at the kiosk located in the lobby during visits or at the kiosk in the lobby of the Sheriff’s Office or the Detention Center.
Phones are able to make outgoing calls only, and they are available during dayroom hours.
For visits there is access provided at least one day each week, and only those who are approved for visits will be provided with the day and time that they may visit.
