If you have questions regarding an inmate or the programs and services provided, the staff can be reached at 717-299-7800, and an online listing of all the detainees is published for your own investigation.
Upon intake, the booking process is completed, which includes a medical screening, fingerprinting and mugshots, DNA sample, along with an assessment to determine security needs, medical needs, mental health requirements, and housing assignment.
Staff is available to transport all inmates to court dates and any medical appointments or emergency needs, as well as inspecting all mail for contraband, receiving commissary funds and other money for inmates, maintaining the safety of the community and the security of the facility, and other tasks.
The Lancaster County Prison also provides several other services to inmates including basic needs in meals, laundry, and hygiene items, and programs including AA, counseling, religious programs, education, recreation, and opportunities to grow social and life skills.

Reducing the risk of mail coming into the jail, all mail is now sent to a third party distributer where it is checked for contraband and then scanned in to be electronically delivered to the recipient. This process removes the possibility of contraband, especially drugs, from entering the prison in mail. For this service Securus and Guarded Exchange have been contracted.
Securus also offers a tablet program which provides inmates with a tablet to access some basic entertainment options but also to message with friends and family through the emessaging system.
Inmates can also make phone calls to those who are on their approved call list. To fund this an account can be created at securustech.com and enter the name and information for the inmate. In the case of an emergency illness or death in the family the chaplain’s office can be contacted directly and 717-295-2089 and the inmate will be notified.
Work Release allows some inmates who meet the criteria to maintain their day job during the week and return to the prison in the evenings and remain on the weekends to serve their sentence. For this to apply they must be sentenced to the program, or it must be approved by the Work Release Office.
To arrange a visit with an inmate you must call the jail on the day that has been designated for the correct visit day. If an inmate is housed in 3-1 the approved visitor must call on Friday during office hours to schedule a Monday visit, on 3-1 they must call Monday to schedule a Tuesday visit, 2-1 has visiting on Wednesday but called on Tuesday, 2-2 has visits Thursday that must be booked on Wednesday, 3-4 visits are Thursday and booked on Wednesday, G-2 book Thurs to visit Friday, C-main visits are Sunday as well as work release. Option 1 - Dropping Money at the Jail
Bring money to the jail in person.
Either the jail personnel will process the Inmate Account payment or you will use a Jail ATM self-serve kiosk in the lobbies that accepts cash, debit or credit cards.
Option 2 - Deposit Inmate Money Online
Lancaster County Prison uses Jail ATM to process all online deposits to an inmate's account. The company charges you a small fee for doing so, but the fee probably isn't as much as gas and parking would cost to take it to the jail in person.
Option 3 - Mail the Inmate Deposit to the Jail
Mailing a deposit takes more time to process than the other methods but can be done if you live too far away to bring it in person and you don't have a debit/credit card for online deposits. Never send cash. Always send a Money Order from the US Post Office, a reputable bank or Western Union. Call the Lancaster County Prison first as they may want you to do this online or at the jail kiosk instead.
Make the Money Order out to the inmate's name and put their Inmate ID# in memo section of the Money Order.
