About the Sherman County Jail
In accordance with Oregon law requiring each sheriff's office to maintain a county jail facility, the Sherman County Sheriff has a small facility used for holding offenders and those who have been arrested. This is the main booking facility for the area and each arrest is processed through this facility then held for their arraignment, until bail can be paid, or they are to be transferred or released. Even though stays are often short, there are both phone calls and visiting hours provided for any inmate to maintain their relationships outside of the jail. Visits are completed with a video call system that is open 8 am until midnight for remote visits that are completed online. For on site video visits it is necessary to arrive early, follow the same dress code as remote and in person visits, and to confirm the day of the visit that the time is available as inmates may lose their phone privileges or times may need to be changed. On site visits are available on Monday and Thursday from 3:30 until 4:30. Personal items are not to be dropped off, but prescription medication that is correctly labelled may be provided to the desk in the lobby for distribution to the appropriate inmate. To contact an inmate an email program has been created and can be accessed at inmatecanteen.com, which is the same site used for the video visits. Commissary items can also be purchased from this website and delivered to the inmate directly.
