Klamath County Juvenile Department Information

The juvenile department within Klamath County is responsible for not only the detention center but also for the care and rehabilitation of youth throughout the county. This includes opportunities to reform, prevention of future delinquency, assessments to determine if alternatives to detention will be successful or appropriate, counseling, court dates and adjudication, probation, and detention. Alternatives to detention are often used before detention to reduce the number of students who are incarcerated, both lowering cost as well as offering additional support to deter detention in the future. These opportunities are all offered by the same juvenile department, allowing for youth to move through the system with many of the same people and approaches for consistency. When detetnion is required, they are each provided with healthy meals and snacks, clean laundry, all the medical care and mental health support that is determined to be required based upon their intake assessment, and transportation to all court dates. Education remain ongoing with support from the local school boards, and they will be able to gain credits towards high school as they finish their classes. Mail: Mail is permitted but will be checked for contraband and all illegal items will be removed before delivery. Phones: Juveniles may call their parents or guardians only, during free hours or other approved phone times. Visitation: Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Each visit is 45 minutes in length and only parents or guardians may visit.
