Douglas County Juvenile Detention Center Information

With a capacity for 32 juveniles, the Douglas County Juvenile Detention Center serves not only the Douglas County youth, but also houses juvenile offenders from Coos County. In addition, it runs a shelter program that offers space for an additional 16 youth who require treatment, emergency housing, or other services. Rehabilitation and reduced recidivism are the main focus of many of the programs, including counseling services, social skill development, and teaching life skills. A strict schedule is followed that instills discipline and develops responsibility, while also offering increased safety for the staff and students. Classrooms are provided for the educational services that occur throughout the weekdays, ensuring that youth maintain their grades or improve their marks through the assessment and adaptations required. Medical staff provide medical care to each of the youth, beginning with an assessment and following up with care requirements already in place, handing out medication according to prescription, and treating any illness or injury that occurs. Mental health care is provided through group or individual sessions and family counseling may be recommended in some cases.
