For the housing of their juvenile offenders, Coos County Juvenile Department has contracted with the Douglas County Juvenile Detention Center. Upon arrest and authorization to detain the youth they will be transported to the Douglas County Facility where they will attend court via video conferencing. The facility has a total capacity of 32 and offers a 30 day extended program for those who qualify. It also contains a shelter unit for at risk youth and those requiring emergency housing for up to 16 youth. Within the shelter program operates residential treatment for juveniles who are involved with the juvenile justice system, as well as those who are placed by the Douglas County Mental Health Division. While in detention they may be serving a sentence or waiting for their adjudication. Treatment will be received for any ongoing medical concerns, substance use or abuse, past trauma, and any mental health concerns. A focus is maintained on rehabilitating the youth and providing the life and social skills necessary to make healthy and positive decisions, reduce recidivism, and to promote successful futures for each resident.
