About the Coos County Jail

Should you be arrested in Coos County, the city of Coquille, Oregon, or the surrounding area, you may find yourself incarcerated in the Coos County Jail. This facility and its staff focus on ensuring the safety and security of all staff and inmates. Inmates are offenders arrested in Coos County that have recently been arrested for a felony or misdemeanor, are awaiting trial, or have been found guilty for their crime(s) and have been sentenced to one year or less.

To contact Coos County Jail with any questions regarding an inmate, their health, their bail, or visits, the staff can be contacted by calling 541-396-7850.

To be incarcerated and confined to a jail as determined by the court results in the loss of many privileges and addition of many limitations, for this reason the staff focus on assisting inmates in making the time productive rather than add to any punishment. This includes keeping staff highly trained and able to reduce any concerns and disagreements, providing opportunities to learn new skills and knowledge, and to leave the jail better prepared for success in life than when they arrived.

To assist in these goals, work opportunities are provided for each inmate, and they will work up to 7 days a week. Jobs include cleaning, kitchen details and help with food services, custodian assignments, maintenance of the grounds, recycling center positions, work release that includes work outside of the jail, and electric monitoring for those who are maintaining their previous employment.

Recreation and mental health counselling are provided to boost morale and mental health during incarceration. Television, card games, board games, and other activities are provided in the dayroom as well as outdoor recreation opportunities. Medical care and a fitness room are available to maintain the physical health of inmates during their incarceration.

Visits are permitted and encouraged, with visiting hours for male inmates being Wednesday 1pm - 3pm, and for female inmates Friday 1pm-3pm. Other visits may be scheduled with the inmate during their free time during the week, which will vary by inmate. All visits must be approved by staff before they are confirmed, for which they can be contacted at 541-396-7850 between 1pm and 3pm weekdays, only those who have been requested by the adult in custody will be granted a visit of one half hour.
