The building is in such poor shape that they are not allowed to exceed 130 inmates, even when they have a need for it. This is not a decision that they made, this was a decision made by the courts.
Fortunately, in 2023 the decision was made to spend $61 million replacing the existing jail by adding over 76,000 square feet to the Greene County Adult Detention Center on Greeneway Blvd. It will add the 250 new beds, and repurpose 232 existing beds for recovery services and mental health counseling programs.
Half of the money will come from $30 million in sales tax-funded bonds, issued in April 2022, and another $10 million from the American Rescue Plan Act, and then the remaining $20 million is intended to come from the Greene County cash reserves. The project should be completed by 2025.

Mail can be received every day and is processed and passed to the inmates quickly, however the jail uses a digital service to avoid contraband entering the facility. Friends and family can also communicate using an online text/email system, send them money and buy them commissary online, and set up a phone account that allows the inmates to call them during the day and evening seven days a week.
