About the Greene County Detention Center

Xenia, Ohio has two separate jails where they house inmates for different reasons, though each is run by the Greene County Sheriff's Office. The Greene County Detention Center has 236 beds, with some being minimum security and others being medium security. The Greene County Jail is old, falling apart and by 2025 will be shut down.

Xenia was named from the Greek work for hospitality, and the city itself aims to be welcoming and hospitable to both residents and visitors. Most of the buildings are old and have a historical appearance, however the detention center is a newer building and that allows it to have updated technology and security measures. The detention center takes a similar approach to inmates, offering programing that will help to provide an easier reintegration after their release and encourage safe socialization with fellow inmates. People are incarcerated here not only for punishment but to rehabilitate and leave better prepared for being released back into society.

The Greene County Detention Center is located at 2295 Greene Way Blvd. in Xenia, OH 45385.

The plan to shut down the Greene County Jail will coincide with the addition of 76,000 square feet to this facility on Greeneway Blvd. It will add the 250 new beds, and repurpose 232 existing beds for recovery services and mental health counseling programs.

Half of the money will come from $30 million in sales tax-funded bonds, issued in April 2022, and another $10 million from the American Rescue Plan Act, and then the remaining $20 million is intended to come from the Greene County cash reserves. The project should be completed by 2025.

You can call the Greene County Detention Center 24 hours a day by phoning 937-562-5840, and you can look up information about any of the inmates on the Official Miami Valley Jail Roster and Inmate Search. The information online includes mugshots, criminal charges, date of arrest, arresting agency, bond, bail, case numbers and the status of the charges.

Family or friends may drop off prescribed medications in their original and labelled packaging, any legal documents that pertain to their case, identification and insurance information, and cash can be added to the commissary account for necessary purchases.

Mail can be received every day and is processed and passed to the inmates quickly, however the jail uses a digital service to avoid contraband entering the facility. Friends and family of inmates in the Greene County Detention Center can arrange to visit inmates by video, both at the jail and remotely from home. Friends and family can also communicate using an online text/email system, send them money and buy them commissary online, and set up a phone account that allows the inmates to call them during the day and evening seven days a week.

All the information on these inmate services can be found in the sections below.  If you still have questions, you can phone the jail 24 hours a day by calling 937-562-5840.
